Title:

Holding the frame: : Advanced therapeutic work with adult survivors of CSA

 

Audience:
Counsellors, therapists or other health professionals currently in a counselling role, working one to one with adult survivors of child sexual assault.

Description:

This is an advanced course designed for practicing counsellors and therapists.

This course explores in depth, therapeutic work with adult survivors of child sexual assault.

Using a psychodynamic framework, the workshop looks at assessment, the therapeutic frame, the therapeutic relationship and traumatic responses such as:

  • self-injury,
  • dissociation,
  • avoidance
  • and traumatic regression.

Neurobiological effects of a complex trauma history is also covered.

A variety of teaching methods are used, including role plays based on case scenarios.

 

Prerequisites:
A minimum of 12 months fulltime work experience within the past 5 years, in an organisation whose primary aim is to provide services in the area of adult survivors of child sexual assault and completion of 2 or more days of training on adult survivors of child sexual assault
